The Changwon Sculpture Biennale was launched in 2010 as the Moon Shin International Sculpture Symposium as a way to honor the late sculptor Moon Shin (1923-1995) and celebrate his great achievements.
Moon Shin is known for his vision of contributing to the local community with his artworks, and in his honor, the International Sculpture Park was created at the Chusan Park (location of the Changwon Moonshin Museum of Art), with the artworks by world-class sculptors from his time, during the symposium.
Later, with the intent to spread the artistic spirit and legacy of Moon Shin, the symposium was renamed as the Changwon Sculpture Biennale, and it was held for the first time at Dotseom Island of Masanhappo-gu in 2012, with the installation of sculptures by 20 Korean and foreign artists.
